Chennai: Nokia plant located in Sriperumbudur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), near Chennai is temprorarily closed after 40 employees working in the plant test positive for Covid 19.
Out of 56 employees tested, 18 were from Kancheepuram and 22 from neighbouring districts of Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu has been tested positive. Salcomp corporation, major component supplier for Apple among others, took over the plant from Nokia last year.
The facility restarted operation on 8 May, after the state government gave nod for industries located in outskirts of Chennai. Companies were advised to work with 50 percentage workforce, maintaining social distancing norms. But some employees allege that the company flouted social distancing advisories.
Similarly, employees of Hyundai Motor plant in Irungattukottai also tested positive for Covid 19. Hyundai Motors India on sunday said three of its employees test positive for Covid 19.
According to district health officials one family member of the employee has also test positive for the virus.
The company said the car plant at Irrungattukottai will continue without a break. "All three employees are recovering fast towards normalcy and as per the safety protocol. In addition to that all the necessary measures are being taken for contact tracing, self-isolation and complete sanitation," the company said in a statement.
