Bengaluru: The online food delivery business is in for a boom in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) Season. Flexibility to order food without missing on a single ball of the match, varieties available, coupled with deep discounts, are helping the online food delivery business to flourish.

Swiggy, Zomato, Uber Eats and Food Panda are the major players in the online food delivery business in Bengaluru, and the majority of the orders are placed during the match timings from the evening to midnight.

As per the Redseer, a consumer market research firm based in Bengaluru, online food deliveries have gone up by around 18% compared to pre-IPL days. Among the metros, Bengaluru has topped the charts followed by Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi. And, as per the survey, French fries and ice creams are the most sought after.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Anil Shetty of Chettys Corner, a food shop in the business for over 22 years, mentioned that online food orders make up around 40% to 50% of the total business, compared to around 15% of the total business in non-IPL days.

Shetty also mentioned that in the current IPL season, not only online orders constitute a major part,but also there is a surge in the overall business. He also said that the current upward growth in the online deliveries is set to continue in the coming months in view of the Cricket World Cup in England in June and July.
