Hyderabad: Have you ever thought how do Narendra Modi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi manage personal finances? In which saving and investing instrument do they put their hard earned money in? Is it held in cash, in gold or jewellery, in real estate, or equity shares?
ETV BHARAT takes a look at their affidavits that were submitted to the Returning Officers while filing nomination papers for the on-going Lok Sabha polls.
Sonia Gandhi
Going by her election affidavit, the former President of the Congress Party and mother of Congress President Rahul Gandhi is a shrewd investor.
Because, compared to Rs 60,000 cash in hand and Rs 16.60 lakh bank deposits, investments of Sonia Gandhi are more in mutual funds and bonds. Gandhi holds Rs 2.45 crore worth of mutual fund (MF) units, bonds, debentures and shares. And, they are spread in HDFC, Kotak, Motilal Oswal, Reliance, HUDCO, Power Finance Corporation, etc.
Besides, Sonia Gandhi has an investment worth Rs 72.25 lakh in National Savings Scheme (NSS), postal saving, insurance policies etc and jewellery, bullion and other valuable things worth Rs 59.97 lakh. Gandhi owns land measuring 3.28 acres at current market value of Rs 7.29 crore in Deramandi and Sultanpur villages in New Delhi.
Narendra Modi
A cursory glance at the affidavit of his portfolio reveals the incumbent prime minister likes to save more money as he has Rs 1.28 crore in various deposits.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Rs 19.92 lakh income in ITR for 2017-18. The PM has Rs 38,750 cash and Rs 4,143 in savings account at SBI, NSC Branch in Gandhinagar.
He has invested Rs 20,000 in L&T Infrastructure tax saving bond and another Rs 7.62 lakh in NSS, postal saving, insurance policies etc.

He has four gold rings of 45 gms worth Rs 1.14 lakh. Modi has declared a Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) of Rs 85,145 deducted from his SBI account for FY 2018-19 and projected TDS of Rs 1.41 lakh at PMO.
He has a residential unit measuring 3,531 sq ft at a current market value of Rs 1.10 crore with no government dues like rent, electricity and water and telephone charges.
Rahul Gandhi
Like his mother, Rahul Gandhi too holds a diversified portfolio with different mutual fund schemes in his kitty.
He declared Rs 1.12 crore income for ITR 2017-18 and has Rs 40,000 cash. Gandhi holds Rs 17.93 lakh worth of bank deposits.
Gandhi holds units worth Rs 5.20 crore in various mutual funds. His MF portfolio includes Aditya Birla Sunlife, DSP Small Cap, Franklin Indian Equity, IDFC Multicap Reg, L&T Equity, Motilal Oswal Multicap, and ICICI Prudential Regular.
His investments in NSS, postal saving, insurance policies, etc stand at Rs 39.89 lakh. He has jewellery, bullion and other valuable things worth Rs 2.91 lakh.
He shares half (2.346 acres) of land he co-owns with his sister Priyanka, at the current market value of Rs 1.33 crore. Gandhi has an office space measuring 5,838 sq ft at the current market value of Rs 8.76 crore in Gurugram.
Nitin Gadkari
The BJP stalwart from Vidarbha is ‘karta’ of Hindu Undivided family (HUF) with three-members dependent on his income.
Gadkari declared Rs 6.40 lakh income in ITR for 2017-18. For his spouse Kanchan, he declared Rs 39.43 lakh income for ITR in the same year. As a ‘karta’ of HUF, Gadkari declared Rs 8.75 lakh income for 2017-18.
The union minister holds Rs 8.99 lakh in deposits with different banks. He has a total investment of Rs 3.55 lakh in debentures, shares, units in companies and mutual funds.
He holds units in Purti Power and Sugar Ltd and has shares in cooperative housing societies.
Gadkari declared Rs 14.81 lakh in personal loans, advances given, investment in business and other miscellaneous assets.
The Nagpur bigwig has motor vehicles of different companies worth Rs 20.10 lakh and jewellery, bullion and valuable things worth Rs 21.83 lakh.
