Rawalpindi: In the early hours of the morning, Rawalpindi's streets buzz with people during the holy month of Ramzan.
At the Kartar Pura food market, people buy food for Sehri (pre-dawn meal).
During Ramzan, Muslims abstain themselves from eating, drinking and smoking between sunrise and sunset. Iftar is eaten as the sun sets.
Charity workers distribute Iftar meals to those who are unable to afford food, due to price hikes throughout the month. As the sun sets people to begin to queue to collect their meal packages. It is often traditional to play games or participate in Ramzan activities.

Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.
The end of Ramzan is marked by Eid.
