New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her first Budget in the Parliament on Friday. The Modi government has tried to give something to every region in this first budget of its second term.

Let's know what is special for the education sector in this budget:

  • 5 percent customs duty imposed on imported books: FM.
  • To upgrade the level of teaching, Gyan initiative was started: FM
  • Regulatory institutions of Higher Education will be completely reformed: FM
  • Concerted efforts have been made to boost education standards. Three institutes - two IITs and IISc (Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru) are in top 200. We will continue making concerted efforts: Sitharaman
  • She said Rs 400 crore has been earmarked for Rs 2019-2020 under the head 'World-class institutions'.
  • India will be soon a hub of higher education. 'Study in India' initiative will be started for the exchange of foreign student: FM
  • We propose to establish a National Research Foundation to fund, coordinate and promote research in the country
  • National educational policy to transform the Indian Higher Education system: FM
  • PM Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan - over 2 crores rural Indians were made digitally literate: FM
