100 Day Action Plan: Railway targets to reduce travel time by five hours

The idea was proposed by the railways in its 100 days action plan which consists of 11 proposals, which are being prepared by union ministries on the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

New Delhi: Indian Railways is planning to bring down the travelling time by five hours between the routes of Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai by investing Rs 14,000 crore on infrastructure over the next four years.

Railway targets to reduce travel time by five hours

Currently, the fastest train (Rajdhani) can run at a maximum speed of 130 kmph. Hence, the railways have set the target to increase the maximum speed of trains on these routes to 160 kmph. After its implementation, the distance between Delhi to Mumbai can be covered in 10 hours and between Delhi to Howrah in 12 hours.

The idea was proposed by the railways in its 100 days action plan which consists of 11 proposals, which are being prepared by union ministries on the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The action plan consists of clear instructions to initiate these proposals with immediate action to implement them by August 31. Currently, the proposal is being sent to the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs for approval.

The project is proposed to be implemented within the period of four years from the date of approval.

The hundred-day action plan also includes railways earlier proposal of handing over certain roots to the private players for the development of those routes.

Apart from this, proposals for providing digital corridors for railways, Wi-Fi at all 6,485 railway stations, elimination of 2,568 level crossings on Golden Quadrilateral diagonals by 2023 and advanced signalling system are also mentioned in the 100 days action plan of Railways.
