US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo calls Iran biggest terror sponsor

While US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Tehran the biggest sponsor of terror, sources in the Union Ministry of External Affairs have clarified that India doesn't agree to Pompeo's stand on Iran.

New Delhi: With tensions continue to escalate between Iran and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Tehran the biggest sponsor of terror. He made these remarks post his two-hour-long meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Wednesday, hinting that US policy regarding Iran won't change.

He rather dropped the ball in India's court claiming that India has also been the victim of terror.
On the other hand, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs have clarified that India doesn't agree to Pompeo's stand on Iran. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also raised India's concerns claiming that Middle-East is important for India's energy supply and it has big stakes involved. He also said that secretary Pompeo was very receptive about India's concerns.In regards to the S-400 missile system deal with Russia, Jaishankar said that in the matter of national interest, India is going to follow its policy.On trade and tariff issues, both leaders claimed to be receptive about each other's concerns. The Foreign Minister said, "If you have a trade of this level, then it's obvious that we will have issues as well."


Talking about the ongoing tensions between the US and India, Dr Jaishankar said, "There has been a lot of noise and we have to filter through that noise and get into the basics of the relationship." On the issue of terrorism, he hailed Trump administrations zero tolerance approach and thanked them for their support.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pompeo met PM Modi and extended his greetings on his re-election. Later, he also met NSA Ajit Doval and raised the issue of cross border terror and non-prosecution of UN-designated terrorists.
