Thane: A 14-year-old boy on Friday afternoon saved his 7-year-old cousin from a leopard in Karpatwadi village near Tokawade in Murbad taluka of Thane district.
The boys are identified as Naresh Kaluram Bhala (14) and Harshad Vitthal Bhala (7).
The boys were with their grandmother on their field located near the Murbad forest range. The boys went into the forest to pluck blackberries while their grandmother was busy farming.
Meanwhile, a leopard hiding in the bushes attacked Harshad, and Naresh immediately picked up a stick and a stone and hit the leopard.
Hearing to their screams, their grandmother came running with a sickle and the leopard ran away.
Both the children were rushed to a nearby hospital as they were injured during the attack.
As the forest officials were informed about the incident, they went in search of it and found it dead around 300 meters away from the spot.
The leopard was taken to Sanjay Gandhi National Park for a post mortem examination and the pathologists informed that the female cat died due to old age and they didn't find any injuries.
The children were felicitated by the officials of Tokawade police station for their bravery.
