Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court issued notices to Google India Private Limited to respond to a petition filed by a Hyderabad based woman stating that Google had failed to remove her name and surname which surfaced on the porn websites maintained by it despite many complaints.
Justice A Rajasheker Reddy issued notices to the company while hearing a plea by a city-based working woman, alleging that on searching her name on Google, it appeared on several porn sites that reflected her name and surname.
The woman told the court that she had lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police department in the year 2017 when her name was first noticed by her friends. In 2018, she approached DMCA ( Digital Millenium copyright act), which is a website protection portal page in the US and requested them to remove her name tag from the porn sites. However, there was no action from the authorities.
The petitioner appealed before the court stating that her reputation was at stake and her co-employees in her office had started passing snide remarks.
Meanwhile, the government council for home submitted a report stating that no such complaint was filed to the cybercrime department in this regard.
Later, the court directed Google India to respond to the issue by the end of August.
