9-month-old infant molested in Warangal

A nine-month-old girl, residing in Hanamkonda of Warangal district in Telangana, was molested and killed by her neighbour on Tuesday night. The baby was kidnapped by the accused while she was asleep with her parents on their terrace.

Warangal (Telangana): A nine-month-old baby girl was allegedly molested and killed by her neighbour in Hanamkonda of Warangal district on Wednesday.

According to sources, the accused, identified as Praveen (28), used to reside a couple of blocks away from the girl's residence in the Kumarpalli area. On Tuesday night, when the baby was sleeping with her parents on their terrace, the accused kidnapped and molested her.

The girl's parents reportedly caught him in the act and handed him over to the police, after a beating. The baby, who was immediately shifted to a hospital, was pronounced dead by the doctors.

A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused, who was taken into custody and was being questioned, a police official involved in the investigation said.

The body of the victim was shifted to a state-run hospital and the exact cause of her death and whether she was sexually assaulted or not would be known after an autopsy.
