S Jaishankar to embark his first visit as foreign min from Bhutan

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a two-day visit to Bhutan from Friday, his first bilateral trip after assuming charge of the ministry. During the visit, the two sides will discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations.

New Delhi: Bhutan is an important ally for India. It can be understood with the fact that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will follow the footsteps of PM Modi. Just like him, he will embark his maiden foreign visit from Bhutan on June 7.

The announcement was made by MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar. He said, "Sam's visit reflects the importance that India attaches to its bilateral relationship with Bhutan, a close friend and neighbour.'

During his visit, S Jaishankar will meet the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel. He will also meet Bhutanese PM Dr. Lotay Tshering. S Jaishankar will meet his counterpart Dr. Tandi Dorji too.

During Foreign minister's visit, both sides will discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, upcoming high-level exchanges, economic development and hydro-power cooperation.

It is to be noted that after coming to power in 2014, PM Modi as part of his government's 'Neighborhood First policy' chose Bhutan as his first abroad visit.
