Alappuzha: A woman civil police officer at Alappuzha district's Vallikunnam station near Mavelikkara died on Saturday after she was set on fire by a colleague who poured petrol on her.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya Pushpakaran, 30, who died on the spot. She was killed near her home in Mavelikkara in Kerala.
The 30-year-old was knocked off from her two-wheeler after the accused, Ajaz, hit her scooter by a car. According to police, the accused allegedly poured petrol over the policewoman and set her ablaze this afternoon when she was on her way back home after work.
The accused, from Aluva traffic police team, who also suffered burns, was taken into custody by the police soon after the attack and has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
Soumya's body is yet to be taken to the hospital as the forensic officials are collecting evidence. She is a mother of three and her husband is working abroad.
Further investigation is underway.
