Rohtas (Bihar): In the absence of martyr Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala, fellow Garud commandos performed his duties in his sister's marriage on June 13 in Bihar.
In the pictures that went viral on social media, the fellow jawans followed the local tradition and extended their hands for the bride to walk over for her 'Vidai' ceremony.
Corporal Nirala was the sole bread earner of the family and the only brother to four sisters. Since the family was facing financial difficulties, Garud commandos came forward to help their colleague's family.
According to sources, each commando contributed Rs 500 and collected enough funds to organise the wedding of Shashi Kala, the martyr's sister.
Corporal Nirala’s father Tej Narayan Singh expressed his gratitude and said that the jawans didn't let them feel the absence of his son.
Garud commando Jyoti Prakash Nirala was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017.
A year later he was awarded Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award on Republic Day by President Ram Nath Kovind.
