Amaravati: The first session of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh began on Wednesday with newly elected members taking the oath.
Pro-tem Speaker Sambangi Appala Naidu presided the swearing-in of the newly-elected MLAs.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was the first to take the oath and greeted House members with folded hands and his party members applauding him by thumping the desks. Following CM Jagan, the Leader of the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N.Chandrababu Naidu took the oath.
The proceedings of the day commenced with the national anthem. The oath-taking of the members of assembly continued the next few business hours. The YSRCP MLAs were wearing the party scarves whereas the TDP members were in yellow clothing, representing their party flag.
The session will last for five days and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected on Thursday. Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will address the House on Friday.
The House will debate the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address on June 17 and 18.
