Uttarakhand cabinet minister turns COVID positive, entire cabinet to be tested

CM Rawat, cabinet ministers, staff to be tested and quarantined

The entire state cabinet including chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will be put under quarantine and tested for COVID-19, after Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj tested positive earlier today.

According to reports, samples will be taken from all ministers, officers and staff, including the chief Minister, who were involved in the cabinet meeting held on May 29.

Along with this, swab samples of all staff and workers present on the fourth floor of the secretariat, where the meeting was held will also be tested.  

Earlier talking to ETV Bharat, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal had said that all ministers and officials should get tested as a precautionary measure.

Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj and family members, who had tested COVID positive earlier, are being taken to AIIMS for treatment. The state health department team took a sample of 41 people out of which a total of 21 people turned positive.

According to reports, the entire state cabinet including chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will be put under quarantine. 

Three other ambulances also arrived to pick up 17 corona positive staff. All the employees have left for Doon Medical College for treatment.

Uttarakhand cabinet minister turns COVID positive, entire cabinet to be tested

Dehradun: In a major scare for the state administration in Uttarakhand, Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, who had attended a cabinet meet just two days ago, tested positive for COVID-19 along with four family members. According to reports, among those tested positive include Satpal Maharaj's son and daughter-in-law.

A total of 41 samples were collected by the state health department out of which five members from the family and 17 others turned out to be COVID positive. The list includes workers and other staff working at the residence of the Tourism minister.

One of the samples form the family has been sent again for COVID testing following discrepancy, indicating a chance of wider impact and spread as being accessed by the health department.

Besides, the COVID scare has reached the door steps of state secretariat, as several staff reportedly came in contact with minister Satpal Maharaj and his personal staff on 29th of May. 

Earlier, minister Satpal Maharaj's wife and former minister Amrita Rawat had tested positive for COVID-19. Amrita Rawat was a minister in the Harish Rawat government.

The minister and the rest of the family were home quarantined at their residence in the city. On Friday, Maharaj had attended a meeting of the state cabinet spelling concerns for chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat-led government.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand has risen to 749, with 33 more testing positive.
