Chitradurga: At least five people, including three children, were charred to death after a bus travelling from Vijayapura to Bengaluru caught fire on the highway in Chitradurga district of Karnataka in the wee hours of Wednesday. At least 27 people have been injured in the accident.
The private bus was said to be carrying 30 passengers when it caught fire on National Highway 4 at KR Halli in Hiriyur taluk of the district. Among the dead are two children and a woman. According to preliminary information, the bus is said to have caught fire after it developed some engine trouble.
The bus belonged to "Kukke Sri Travels". The injured people have been shifted to Hiriyur and Chitradurga district hospitals. Police have registered an FIR and an investigation has been launched.
