Two militants were killed and three soldiers, including an Army officer, injured on Monday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.

"The three injured have been shifted to a hospital and some terrorists were still engaged in the ensuing gunfight," the police said.

The gunfight took place after personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police personnel surrounded the Bidoora village in the Achabal area following information about the presence of terrorists.

Two militants were killed on Monday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and special operations group (SOG) of state police personnel surrounded the Bidoora village in Achabal area following information about the presence of militants.

"Hiding militants opened fire just as the cordon around them was being tightened. Two militants were killed and their bodies recovered.

"Exact identities and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained," a police officer said.

Fresh firing exchanges started after the bodies were recovered.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Acting on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Achabal area of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there this morning, the Police official said.

He said that the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired on the forces, who retaliated.

The exchange of firing was going on when last reports came in, the official said.

There were no reports of any casualties on either side so far, the official said, adding further details were awaited.
