Addressing the media on the encounter, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said that they reached the spot to recover the cell phone of the victim and collect other pieces of evidence. According to Sajjanar, there were around 10 police persons during the time of the encounter.  

"All the accused got together, they snatched two police weapons and tried to fire on them. They refused to surrender despite warnings. We also fired, after some time we found them dead," he said.

Sajjanar further added that the victim's cell-phone has been recovered from the spot.

He further informed that two cops, an SI and a constable received injuries during the encounter. The injured police officials have been shifted to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Speaking to reporters at the encounter site, Dr Chandu Naik, Deputy DMHO Ranga Reddy district, said that a five-member team from Gandhi Hospital had been sent to the spot, and the bodies of the accused will now be shifted to Mahabubnagar for postmortem.

Hyderabad: Telangana Police on Friday shot dead all four accused in the gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian in an encounter near the original crime sport near Shadnagar town.

The accused were killed early on Friday morning when they allegedly tried to escape from Chatanpally near Shadnagar, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

They were gunned down at the same spot where the accused had dumped the victim's body and set it afire on the night of November 27 after the gang-rape near Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The accused were taken to the spot for reconstruction of crime scene as part of the investigations.

"All four accused Mohammed Arif, Naveen, Shiva and Chennakeshavulu were killed in a police encounter at Chatanpally, Shadnagar today in the wee hours, between 3 am and 6am," Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar confirmed. 

Reacting to the development, the father of the victim said, "It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police and government for this. My daughter's soul must be at peace now."

The four men, all lorry workers, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on November 29 for allegedly raping and killing the woman by smothering her and later burning her body.

They were in remanded to 7 days' judicial custody.  

The gruesome rape and murder had triggered nation-wide rage with demands for immediate death penalty to the perpetrators.
