Amravati (Andhra Pradesh): Two youths were allegedly tied to a tree and beaten on the suspicion of theft by the villagers in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district.
The two have been identified as Venkatesh and Praveen.
According to the victims, they and two other friends were travelling from Jaggavaram village to their friend's house in Singagudem. When they reached Ganapavarigudem village the youths stopped for filling loose petrol on the roadside.
However, the petrol seller suspected the youth of stealing petrol and screamed loudly. A section of the villagers surrounded the youths and started beating them.
Frightened by the approach of all the villagers, two of them escaped from the spot. The villagers beat Venkatesh and Praveen. They were kept there all night and were tied to a tree.
On receiving the information, police officials reached the spot and rescued them. They were later shifted to Chintalapudi Government Hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, the two have demanded strict action for the villagers who beat them up.
