Mumbai: When will the second wave of corona come to India? If so, what will be its intensity? What is the difference between the corona epidemic and management in Europe and India? ETV has tried to find answers to such questions. Renowned ophthalmologist Padma Shri Dr Tatyarao Lahane, Prof. Dr. Rajshri Katke, Dr. Kuldeepraj Kohli and Dr. Jawahar Shah discuss with ETV Bharat. The experts answered all our questions and gave some important advice.

While talking about the second wave, Dr Tatyarao Lahane said, "Even if the second wave of Coronavirus hits India, it may be in January or February." Currently, Europe is witnessing the second wave of Coronavirus so there is a lot of talk about India getting hit by it again. Dr Lahane added that there may not be a severe second wave of Coronavirus in India. He said," In some cases, there are antibodies present in 50 per cent of the people, while in some they are present in 30 per cent of the people due to which we are progressing towards herd immunity. This is why even if there is a second wave of Coronavirus, it would be mild."

Dr Jawahar Shah while talking about the scenario in Taiwan said, "There is discipline in Taiwan. People are wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and are reporting in case of any symptoms due to which the situation there is under control. In Singapore, if one is found without a mask, four police personnel come and arrest you for the same." While talking about the way things are in India, he said, "In India, there is no discipline. If two people are stressing upon the importance of wearing a mask, there are 50 who say they will not follow it." In Europe, due to the changing weather and temperatures dropping, there is going to be a second wave. If one takes all the necessary precautions, they will be safe.

In China, Belgium, Brazil, Europe, the US, Italy, the fatality rate is so high and the mortality rate is 4-5 per cent. So out of every 100, 4-5 people die due to Coronavirus while in India, the percentage is 1-1.5. How did this happen? While explaining this, Dr Kuldeepraj Kohli, said, "People have done a lot of things like consuming herbal drinks and turmeric milk. We can give some credit to Ayush for this. Because of these efforts, the fatality and mortality rate in our country is low."

We don't know much about Coronavirus as it has just been a year that we are introduced to it. If you look at Germany, Britain, the second wave there is very severe. What gets affected the most is the immune system when a Coronavirus wave hits a country. Lockdown during such times is very important to control the spread of the virus. The lockdown in Maharashtra helped a lot when it comes to spreading the virus.

While there has been a decline in the numbers of new Coronavirus cases, at the moment, if there is a second wave that hits us, 30-50 per cent of people have antibodies present. This is an indication of herd immunity being developed amongst people. If this is developed, if a person gets Coronavirus, he/she has it in a mild nature. Researchers and scientists are of an opinion that if the second wave hits India, it will be mild but at some point, if things change and it worsens, measures like lockdown and contact tracing will have to be done.
