New Delhi: Welcoming the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2021, commonly called the OBC Bill, passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, president of National BJP OBC Morcha, K. Laxman said the BJP government did many things in seven years which successive Congress governments failed to do in 70 years. Speaking to ETV Bharat, K. Laxman said, "The BJP OBC Morcha welcomes the OBC Bill. The Modi government thinks one step ahead for the backward classes, he added.

When asked about the demands made by the opposition parties and few other parties in alliance with NDA demanding the removal of the 50 per cent cap on the reservation, he said, "Even after the Supreme Court order for 50 per cent reservation ceiling, Modi government has implemented the 10 per cent reservations for economically weaker sections (EWS). This never happened, no government did this in past. The Modi government did things which successive Congress governments failed to do in 70 years."

Many leaders such as BJP ally Lalan Singh of JD(U), Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav, BSP's Ritesh Pandey and TR Baalu of DMK had pitched for increasing the cap of reservation beyond 50 per cent and conducting a caste-based Census throughout the country. UP BJP MP and national general secretary of BJP OBC Morcha Sangam Lal Gupta said the OBC community is proud of the passage of this Bill from both houses. "By giving 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections of the society and giving 27 per cent of the all-India quota admissions reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in all undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses, the whole OBC community is overwhelmed."
