Waze reported to Param Bir Singh, says Hemant Nagrale in his report

In his report on reinstatement on shunted Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze, police commissioner Hemant Nagrale said that Waze was appointed after oral instructions from then police commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Mumbai: Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale on Wednesday submitted a report to Maharashtra Home Department about the reinstatement of Sachin Waze and his nine months tenure in Mumbai CIU, Crime Branch

The report submitted by Mumbai Police states, "Sachin Waze was posted in Crime Intelligence Unit after oral instructions from the then Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. Waze was reporting to Singh directly, bypassing several other officers."

The report stated that despite opposition from the department, Param Singh himself included Waze in his team and he was given VIP treatment. It further stated that the onus of cracking high-profile cases was put on Waze's shoulders.

"Waze's behaviour after his inclusion in the department was not up to the mark. He used to come to offices in expensive cars and did not update the information in the register."

Waze is currently in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody till today in the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house and businessman Mansukh Hiran's death. He was arrested on March 13, was produced before the special NIA court here after his earlier remand expired.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleged Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of of corruption and malpractices.

An explosives-laden Scorpio was found near Ambani's residence here on February 25. Mansukh Hiran, who had claimed that the vehicle had been stolen from his possession a week earlier, was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5.
