Almora: Farida Malik, an American citizen of Pakistani origin, who was serving a sentence for illegally entering India through Nepal, has been released from Almora jail on Saturday.
Champawat police took her to Delhi for her medical examination and to complete her formalities so that she could be sent back to America at the earliest.

Malik was apprehended on 12 July 2019 at Banbasa immigration check-post in Uttarakhand's Champawat district while she was trying to enter India illegally from Nepal.
The immigration officials found that she was not having an Indian visa to travel and she was trying to reach Delhi from Kathmandu via Banbasa.

Champawat police filed a case under Passport and Foreigners Act.
"She was later granted bail from Nainital High Court on a condition that she could not leave India but a warrant was issued against her after she failed to appear before the court for hearings and was sent to jail," Sharda barrage outpost in-charge Govind Bisht informed.
