Upgraded version of Arjun Mark 1 tested in Jaisalmer

The new version of the tank has been upgraded with an automatic guided missile, official sources said, adding that it has many advanced features that would strengthen firing power of the Indian army.

Jaisalmer: This bordering district of Rajasthan once again witnessed training of modern arms and ammunition as the final phase of trials of the battle tank Arjun Mark 1 ALFA, the advanced version of the tank, held here at Pokhran field firing range.

The tank has been built under the central government flagship programme - Make in India by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The new version of the tank has been upgraded with an automatic guided missile, official sources said, adding that it has many advanced features that would strengthen firing power of the Indian army.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who celebrated the festival of Diwali with soldiers in Jaisalmer a few weeks ago, had travelled in the same tank.

According to official sources, the tank has been modified on the basis of the need of the army and the upgraded version of it is being tested in the Pokhran field firing range.

The upgraded version of the tank would be inducted in the army soon, the sources added.
