Hyderabad: Amid the massive surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Ministry of Education on Tuesday decided to postpone the UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021) exams. 

The notification issued by the concerned Ministry said that the revised examination dates will be announced later and at least 15 days before the examination.

The UGC - National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) for December 2020 cycle (May 2021) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode was scheduled between May 2 to 17 2021, throughout the country covering at least 81 subjects.

This comes amid the second wave of the pandemic being witnessed across the country. India on Tuesday registered its highest-ever single-day spike in COVID-19 with over 2.59 lakh cases.

"However, looking at the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the candidates and examination functionaries, it has been decided to postpone the UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021) Examination," read the notification issued by the ministry.

The notification further read, "The revised dates for the UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021) Examination will be announced later and at least 15 days before the examination."

"The candidates are advised to keep visiting the official websites of NTA (www.nta.ac.in) and (ugmet.nta.nic.in) for the latest updates. For any further clarification related to UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021) Examination the candidates can contact 011-40759000 or send an email at ugcnet@nta.ac.in." added the notification.

Meanwhile, India is currently witnessing a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic reported over 2,59,170 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. According to the Health Ministry, there are currently 20,31,977 active cases in the country.
