'Tumours in the lungs, heart or brain after recovery from Covid-19'

A new concern is now emerging for patients recovered from Covid-19. Some of the after-effects of Covid-19 may prove to be just as deadly. Many people who have recovered from Covid-19 have, later on, succumbed to some of this disease. The main cause of these deaths is a tumour in the lungs, heart or brain. Due to this, doctors in Surat are advising the Covid-19 patients to undergo the D-Dimer test.

Surat: A new concern has arisen for the youth in the city. This is very shocking news that even after getting cured of Covid-19, there is after effects, which we need to take care of. This is because currently 50 to 60 per cent of the recovered Covid-19 patients in Surat city is showing mild De-dimer. However more worrying is that 10 to 15 patients are showing a high level of D-Dimer. If this is not treated in time, it can prove fatal. Many people are dying because of the after-effects of Covid-19. This problem is mostly seen in the youth of the city, and most of them are facing heart problems.

Mild D-Dimer in 50 to 60 per cent of the patients

Dr. Atul Abhyankar, a heart specialist, told ETV Bharat, "Many people who recovered from Corona infection have suddenly died. We urge people to take the D-Dimer test after beating the corona to find out what effect the virus has had on their body. If there is side effect is found, it can be cured by drugs and injections. This is a very worrying situation, so people need to get this test done."

No Visible Symptoms

Dr. Abhyankar further explained, "People may think they have recovered fully (from Covid-19), but the reality may be different. People do not realise that blood clots are being formed in their bodies and suddenly the death occurs. People who get tested and found to have high D-Dimer are given Heparin to thin their blood. Even if D-Dimer is high, there are no outward symptoms. People who have recovered from Corona usually feel that they are having fatigue, as they are recovering. If you have difficulty breathing it can also be a symptom of having a high D-Dimer."

What is a D-dimer test?

This is a type of blood test, by which we can know about the blood cells of the body. If there is a blood clot in the lungs, heart or brain, this test provides an early indication. The doctor can start the treatment according to the report. Currently, there is a shortage of the kit to do D-Dimer test in rural areas. If blood clots are formed and they reach the lungs, it makes it difficult to breathe; so it is very important to get this test done. D-Dimer is usually found to be higher in people whose oxygen level decreases during treatment.
