Tripura tops in India vaccination drive

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said, 89 percent of the 45+ age group population in the state has been administered the first shot of COVID 19 vaccination.

Agartala: Tripura is on the top of the chart for vaccinating the most number of people in 45 plus age group, the government has said.

Biplab Kumar Deb shared a social media post that read," 89 percent of the 45+ age group population in the state has already been administered the first shot".

He also said that the infection rate has decreased significantly following the steps taken by the government to fight the COVID 19 pandemic.Deb hailed the role of the healthcare doctors, nurses and other staff in combating the COVID 19 virus. He also thanked the people for their cooperation.

Tripura cabinet spokesman and Education minister Ratanlal Nath had said that the Covid positivity rate had come down across the state significantly. On May 29, the state had registered a 6.39 percent positivity rate while the figure had decreased to 2.51 on May 30.

“In West Tripura district, the positivity rate was 16.67 percent on May 29 while the figure had come down to 3.12 percent significantly. Similarly, the AMC areas had recorded a 17.48 percent positivity rate on May 29 and it had decreased to 6.40 percent on May 30,” Nath said at a press conference in the Civil Secretariat.

Giving details on vaccination, he said, “As many as 16,06,456 doses have so far been administered in the state—while 10,98,818 people have received the first dose, the second shot has been given to 5,07,638 people. As of Monday, 2,73,390 doses are in stock while more 1,92,850 doses are expected to arrive in the month of June,” Nath told the media.

He said that the state government was handling the Covid 2.0 very well with a special focus on testing, vaccination and awareness.
