Agartala: After two consecutive denials by the police to hold a rally, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has just forayed into Tripura’s political scenario, has warned that it will move the court if its plea to hold a rally would be rejected again.
On Tuesday, the TMC, for the third time, submitted an application requesting permission to hold a demonstration led by the party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Agartala on September 22.
“We have written to the administration following due legal process and we hope we are granted the permission to organise the padayatra. If we are denied permission this time, too, we will move the court,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
In its first show of strength in Tripura, the TMC had planned a rally for September 15. However, their permission was denied citing that another political party had already been granted permission to hold a rally in the same venue. In this view, the TMC postponed the rally to the next day. To its dismay, the administration again denied permission saying the police were pre-occupied with law and order commitments ahead of Vishwakarma Puja.

Sushmita Dev, who recently switched over to the TMC from the Congress and was nominated by the TMC for Rajya Sabha, wondered what reason the state machinery would cite to deny permission this time around.
The ruling BJP, for its part, said the police would do its duty without any political interference.
