New Delhi: A Border Security Force Head Constable lost his life in a gun battle with proscribed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) militants in North Tripura's Panisagar district in the wee hours on Friday. Giving details of the incident to ETV Bharat, a BSF spokesperson said in New Delhi that a BSF patrol team of 145 Bn came under indiscriminate firing st Border Out Post (BOP) Simna-II by suspected NLFT (BM) insurgent.

"BSF troops retaliated following which insurgents fled from the site under cover of dense forest," the BSF official said. In the exchange of fire, Girjesh Kumar Uddey (HC) sustained bullet injuries and was immediately evacuated by helicopter to Agartala. "He succumbed to his serious injuries," the official said. IG BSF along with his team has reached the spot of occurrence and supervising the situation.

"Like every other day, this day too the BSF jawans were conducting patrolling in the bordering areas in the Simnapur border outpost. All of a sudden NLFT extremists, who had set up an ambush on the other side of the barbed wire fencing, opened fire indiscriminately on the BSF jawans. The latter, too, retaliated. Unfortunately, one BSF jawan identified as Grijesh Kumar, who was a Head constable of 145 battalion of BSF, sustained four bullet injuries. We had airlifted the injured jawan to Agartala for treatment, however, he succumbed during treatment. His body has been sent to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for post-mortem," the official said.
