AGARTALA: The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls. The manifesto has been christened as 'Nine jewels for Agartala.' This means that the party is stressing nine aspects.
Tripura is heading for the municipal polls on November 29. This is for the first time that Trinamool Congress is going for a full-fledged contest in any election outside West Bengal. So they came out with a separate manifesto for AMC to win the confidence of the people.
Poll promises for voters of Tripura
The first aspect is a more developed city and society. Road development and road safety have been especially focused on. At the same time, it has stressed regular maintenance of the roads and footpaths.
The manifesto promises free wifi at four important points in the city. It also promises a clean ambience and bio-toilets for women in each and every ward. The other promises include a better fire services system, cheap toilets and hygienic drinking water.
The manifesto also focuses on citizens' safety. Promises of lampposts at 30 important crossings have been made in the manifesto. It also promises CCTV coverage, five dedicated patrolling vans for round the clock patrolling, pink auto and women driven taxis. It has also promised that AMC will bear 50 per cent of the cost for such pink auto and women driven taxis.
The manifesto also promises a better sewerage system, public hearing of grievances and “Hello Mayor,” in line with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
According to the manifesto, if voted to power the Trinamool Congress-controlled new AMC board will also focus on the development of the health centres. It will also work with the mission of achieving a city that is free of malaria and dengue.
Another important promise is that of a 20 per cent rebate in municipal taxes within the AMC area. People with an annual income of less than Rs10 lakhs will get the benefit of this rebate. It also promises the installation of water ATMs in all wards.
