1. Encounter in J&K's Kulgam called off as militants give slip to forces

An encounter that was underway between security forces and militants in the Redwani area of south Kashmir district has been called off. Militants managed to flee after the initial exchange of fire and hence the operation ended, officials said.

2. Won't compel users to accept new privacy policy, WhatsApp tells Delhi HC

Whatsapp told the Delhi High Court on Friday that till the data protection bill comes into force, it would not compel users to opt for its new privacy policy as it has been put on hold. Whatsapp also clarified before a bench of Chief justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh that it would not limit the functionality for users who are not opting for a new privacy policy in the meantime.

3. Telangana TDP president L Ramana resigns, to join TRS

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president L Ramana has resigned from his post and the party as well on Friday. He tendered his resignation to TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu and conveyed his decision to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party.

4. I am not leaving Kerala but the state has chased me out: Sabu Jacob, Kitex MD

Kitex group managing director Sabu Jacob hit out against the Kerala state government's alleged vendetta against him. Sabu Jacob's Kitex group is the second-largest children's apparel manufacturer in the world. The group head recently withdrew from a Rs 3500 Cr project for which it had signed a memorandum with the Kerala government at the 'Ascend Global Investors Meet' in Kochi on January 2020.

1. J&K BJP unit meets Delimitation Commission, demands unfreezing 24 PoK seats

Bharatiya Janata Party's J&K unit led by president Ravinder Raina on Thursday met the officials of the Delimitation Commission which is being headed by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, and demanded the unfreezing of the 24 assembly seats that fall under Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, so that reservation could be provided to people displaced from PoK, such as Kashmiri Pandits, SCs and STs.  

2. Captain Amarinder gears up for polls as Sidhu goes all guns blazing

Capt Amarinder Singh, the Punjab CM has begun gearing up for 2022 Assembly polls in the State, while Navjot Singh Sidhu continued to go all guns blazing at the former. Meanwhile, Captain's meeting with poll strategist Prashant Kishor is a significant development, indicating that the groundwork exercise has begun in Punjab and has drawn much interest in political circles. 

3. Museum in Bengal Assembly premises likely to be operational by year end

After four years of tussle between the West Bengal state government and the Eastern Command of the Army, the construction of a museum at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly premises has finally resumed.  

4. 2 Haitian Americans detained in slaying of Haiti president

Two men believed to be Haitian Americans — one of them purportedly a former bodyguard at the Canadian Embassy in Port au Prince — have been arrested in connection with the assassination of Haiti’s president, Haitian officials said Thursday.

5. PM Modi says he's 'saddened' by Haiti prez assassination, offers condolences to family

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday offered condolences to the family of President Jovenel Moise and the people of Haiti and expressed sadness over the assassination.

1. Covid-19: One small mistake can cost us dearly, says PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed serious concerns over laxity in following Covid-appropriate behaviour saying that the scenes of people roaming without masks and videos of crowded places must instill a sense of fear. "One small mistake can cost us dearly," he said.

2. Had informed Ravi Shankar Prasad before locking his account: Twitter responds

Amid a war of words with the Central government, Twitter on Thursday responding to the Shashi Tharoor-led Parliamentary panel for Information Technology stated that it had informed the then IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad before blocking his account under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)

3. New railway minister directs his officials to work in 2 shifts

Bureaucrat-entrepreneur-turned-politician Ashwini Vaishnaw took charge as the country's new railway minister on Thursday and his first order of business was to direct officers in his office to come to work in two shifts of nine hours each. An order to that effect was issued from the office of the Minister of Railways, Communication, Electronics and Information Technology.

4. Terrorist hideout busted in J-K's Sopore; one arrested

Jammu and Kashmir Police in a joint operation with the Indian Army and CRPF busted a hideout of banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen in the Sopore area on Thursday and recovered arms and ammunition. The police also arrested an overground worker in this connection.

5. Zika virus case confirmed in Kerala

In the first case of Zika virus in Kerala, a 24-year-old pregnant woman has been diagnosed with the mosquito transmitted disease, State Health Minister Veena George said on Thursday. There are 13 other suspected cases of the virus from Thiruvananthapuram, the minister toldPTI, adding the government was awaiting confirmation from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune.
