Hyderabad: The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 140.4 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 3 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
However, India is now the second most COVID-affected country as it surpassed Brazil, Russia, Italy and the UK, with its total COVID cases standing at 15.6 million. On Wednesday alone, the country reported 2,95,041 new COVID-19 cases, its highest to date. With the new additions, the total tally of cases in the country has increased to 1,56,16,130 with 21,57,538 active cases.

United States(US)
- The United States tops the list with 31.7 million coronavirus cases.
- The United States on Sunday recorded 31,793,035 novel coronavirus cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.
- The pandemic has now claimed the lives of at least 568,470 people in the United States, which leads the world in the number of confirmed infections.
India
- India is now the second worst-affected country by COVID-19.
- India's novel Coronavirus tally crossed the 15.6 million mark on Wednesday with the detection of 2,95,041 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Indian Health Ministry said.
- The state of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh were among the five worst-affected states in India.

Brazil
- Brazil with more than 14 million cases is close behind India.

- France has about 5.3 million coronavirus cases.
- France's novel coronavirus tally crossed the 5.4 million mark on Wednesday with the death toll rising to 101,713, according to John Hopkins University.
Russia
- Russia is in the fifth place with more than 4.6 million cases.
- Russia reported more than 4,665,553 cases of coronavirus infections so far and 104,545 deaths.
- The country has the fifth-highest number of infections behind the United States, Brazil, India and France, but the number of new cases has seen a stellar rise every day in the past month.
