1. BSF officer killed in Pakistan firing along LoC

A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was killed and another injured on Friday as Pakistan violated ceasefire at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. Officials said Sub Inspector Rakesh Doval deployed at the BSF artillery battery at the LoC in Baramulla was killed after he sustained a head injury in the firing at around 13:15 hours.

2. Leh airport passenger capacity to expand fourfold

Situated in the Himalayas at an altitude of over 10,000 feet, Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh connects Ladakh with the rest of the country. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to scale up the passenger handling capacity of the airport amid rising tourist footfall in the territory.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan stepped down as State Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) due to health issues. The state committee accepted his resignation. Left Democratic Front Convenor A Vijayaraghavan has been given charge of party affairs. Balakrishnan's resignation comes after his son Bineesh Kodiyeri got entangled in controversial Bengaluru drug case.

4. Attorney General of India okays contempt proceeding against comedian Kunal Kamra

Attorney General of India, KK Venugopal on Thursday granted consent for initiating contempt proceedings against stand up comedian Kunal Kamra for his tweets against the Supreme Court for granting bail to journalist Arnab Goswami. Kamra had also morphed the court's picture and coloured it orange to depict inclination towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently in power.

5. Modi to celebrate Diwali with soldiers on Indo-Pak border

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to celebrate Diwali with soldiers deployed along the international border with Pakistan either here or Bhuj in Gujarat, sources said. Preparations are on to welcome the Prime Minister at both the places as he may go to any of the bordering areas to be with soldiers of the Indian army on the occasion of Diwali, they said.

6. Karnataka allows green firecrackers during Diwali

The Karnataka government on Thursday issued modified guidelines for Diwali and permitted sale of only green firecrackers by licensed shops in the state. Green firecrackers do not contain harmful chemicals, thereby reducing air pollution due to firecrackers considerably. They are less harmful in comparison to conventional firecrackers. They are available as sparklers, flowerpots and maroons in the market, an official statement said here.

7. UK's 'Yorkshire Ripper' serial killer Peter Sutcliffe dies

Britain’s Prison Service says that serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, who was widely known as the “Yorkshire Ripper," has died in the hospital. The 74-year-old had tested positive for COVID-19 and was suffering from underlying health conditions. His cause of death will be investigated by the coroner.

8. Newly elected NDA MLAs to meet on Nov 15 to choose Nitish as their leader

A joint meeting of the NDA legislature party will be held on Sunday where Nitish Kumar will be elected as its leader. This was decided a meeting of the leaders of the four NDA constituents in Bihar--the JD(U), BJP, HAM and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) at the residence of Chief Minister Kumar on Friday.

9. Peshawar High Court Chief Justice dies of Covid-19

Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth has died due to the novel coronavirus. He was 59, according to officials. Justice Seth had tested positive for the virus on October 22 and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Peshawar, Zubair Hussain, a protocol officer of the high court, told Dawn news. He was later shifted to the Kulsum International Hospital in Islamabad, where he passed away on Thursday, Hussain added.

10. Gehlot demands special status for Rajasthan under National AYUSH Mission

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give special status to the state under the National AYUSH Mission as it has the "largest" infrastructure in the country in the AYUSH sector. He said the state has 5,000 AYUSH medical centres in operation.
