Namakkal: A 55-years-old temple priest, identified as Sekar, was arrested for sexually abusing two minor girls near Rasipuram. It was reported that the two minor girls were raped for a week.

As per reports, the minor girls' parents took them to the priest based on superstition and they hoped that the minors would be free of demonic behaviour after the ritual performed by the priest. The accused convinced the parents that after one-week long pooja the girls would behave piously towards them.

After the minors reached home, they revealed everything to their parents and subsequently the parents filed a complaint in Mangalapuram police station. On the basis of the preliminary investigation, police confirmed that the priest had sexually abused the girls for a week.

Following this, Sekar was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and further investigation is underway.

In similar cases, last month, police had arrested 15 people under the POCSO Act near Rasipuram, including a 70-year-old man who had sexually abused two girls for six months.
