New Delhi: The island nation of Taiwan on Saturday thanked India for its continuous support to the nation and hoped for stronger India-Taiwan ties after New Delhi expressed concern over the death of over 50 people killed in the train accident on Friday.
Taking to Twitter, Taiwanese Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Wu said, "Thank you @MEAIndia for the expression of sentiment & support. This genuinely friendly gesture will touch the people, & bring Taiwan & India closer in a real & lasting manner".
This comes after India expressed deep concern over the loss of lives in Taiwan caused by the derailment of a train in eastern Taiwan.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives in the railway accident in Taiwan. Our deepest condolences to the families. And our prayers for the early recovery of the injured," the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said.
On Friday, at least 50 people have been killed and dozens more injured after a train carrying nearly 500 passengers crashed and then derailed in a tunnel in Taiwan.
