New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Karnataka government on a plea filed by the sister of murdered journalist Gauri Lankesh, reports said.

The plea challenged the Karnataka HC order of quashing charges under Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) against one of the accused. The bail plea of the accused is also pending before the High Court, which the top court ordered can not be granted till it disposes of the plea.

The bench comprising of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Aniruddha Bose was hearing the petition filed by Kavitha Lankesh. She contended before the court that the accused had sought bail on HC quashing charges against him under KCOCA even though the investigation indicates that the accused was involved in giving shelter to the killers and organised the crime. The court also sought the state's response on the matter and posted it for hearing on July 15.
