State-wise action plans to control solid waste burning: Air quality panel

Hyderabad: In a bid to tackle the problem of agricultural stubble burning, the Governments of Punjab, Delhi and the NCR states have developed detailed monitorable action plans based on the Framework of the Commission for Air Quality Management, the commission informed on Wednesday.

The commission in a string of tweets revealed that in order to promote the use of Bio-Decomposer technology developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, 'PUSA' Bio decomposers were planned for application in 6 lakh acres in U.P, 1 Lakh acres in Haryana, 7,413 acres in Punjab and 4,000 acres in Delhi respectively.

"Directions have also been issued to NCR state Govts/GNCTD, road owning agencies and municipal bodies for abatement of dust from roads/open areas through a 'Dust Control and Management Cell'," the commission said.

With regards to "Control/Prevention of Air Pollution from Construction and Demolition activities" directions have been issued with illustrative dust control/mitigative measures, the tweets said.

The commission said that the projects will be strictly monitored through a dedicated Web-portal.

State-wise action plans have been prepared for control of Biomass/Municipal Solid Waste Burning and fires in Landfill Sites, focusing on deployment of enforcement teams, quick complaint redressals and corrective actions through IT-enabled platforms, the commission informed.

The commission also said that a dedicated task force has been envisaged in each NCR state to continuously monitor and take steps regularly to ensure smooth traffic management, including developing an “Intelligent Traffic Management System” (ITMS).
