Ramgarh (Jharkhand): Twelve people were injured as a speeding vehicle rams into a crowd watching the idol immersion procession in Jharkhand's Ramgarh town. The injured include SI of Ramgarh police station, and among them five are in serious condition.
"The condition of 5 people is said to be critical. All have been sent to the hospital for treatment. Scorpio is being identified. Soon the vehicle driver will be taken into custody. Raids are also being carried at many other places," Ramgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) said.
All those injured were initially rushed to the district hospital and a private nursing home for treatment. Later, they were referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for better treatment.
The unfortunate incident took place near Gola Road, at Jhanda Chowk Mod of the city. Many people were taking part in the immersion procession which was moving towards Thana Chowk via Jhanda Chowk when the speeding Scorpio bearing registration number - JH02AP 7073, rammed into the devotees who were standing on the side of the road. The driver dragged three people for over 50 metres and did not even stop the car after the accident.

Security was beefed up in the area to curb any unwanted incidents as the mob started a protest demanding strict action taken against the erring driver following the accident.
