New Delhi: Rebel Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been vocal against his former colleague and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, met with party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence here on Friday. He was accompanied by Harish Rawat, the party's general secretary in-charge of Punjab.
Their meeting with the Congress supremo comes at a time when the party is all set to name him as the next Punjab Congress Committee chief, much to the disliking of Capt Amarinder. "Sidhu will be appointed as the new PCC president along with two working presidents. Sunil Jakhar, who is currently heading Punjab Congress, will be adjusted in the All India Congress Committee," the source said.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rawat said, "I came here to submit my note to the party president. As soon as I get to know about her decision regarding Punjab Congress, I'll let you (media) all know," he said.
Sources close to Capt Amarinder said he was unhappy and had conveyed to the party high command that he would not go into the Assembly elections with Sidhu as PCC head. The tussle between the two bigwigs is not new. Though this rift has its origins in weeks after the formation of the Congress government in Punjab in 2017, it has only widened over time.
