New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Loktantra Janata Dal (LJD) patron Sharad Yadav has been away from active politics for the last 1 year because of health issues. On Monday he took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The LJD leader said that there is a popular saying that prevention is better than cure.

Sharad Yadav said that the country is grappling with the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. This epidemic has destroyed many lives. Many people were killed. But now you have vaccines available as a weapon to fight this disease. Many people in society are afraid of getting vaccinated, many kinds of misconceptions are being spread. This is completely irresponsible. Together we have to fight this epidemic.

The leader from Bihar further added that in such a situation, we should understand that vaccine is the only option. Both public awareness and vaccines are important to defeat Covid-19. Currently, the most effective protection from Covid infection is the vaccine.

Sharad Yadav said scientists have also advocated getting the vaccine as it will help to fight the third wave of Covid-19 infection in the country. Also if the people of the country get vaccinated then the country may not have to take tough decisions like lockdowns.

Therefore, I request you all to save your family members and give your contribution in the interest of society and the country. Get the vaccine and also encourage every family member to get vaccinated. The vaccine is completely safe as well as effective. I too have fulfilled my duty of being a responsible citizen and have taken the first dose of the vaccine.

Sharad Yadav also urged the Central Government and the State Governments to speed up the process of vaccination and simplify the process so that every citizen can avail of this facility. Apart from this, I would like to thank all the frontline workers and doctors, nurses and various voluntary organizations working in the country who are discharging their responsibilities in this difficult time. The task of all these warriors to save humanity by putting their lives at risk under severe circumstances is commendable.
