Shaktiman horse death case: Court acquits Minister Ganesh Joshi and others

The CJM Court of Dehradun has acquitted the five accused including cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi and Yogendra Rawat in the Shaktimaan horse death case due to lack of evidence in the case.

Dehradun: The CJM Court of Dehradun has acquitted the five accused including cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi and Yogendra Rawat in the Shaktimaan horse death case due to lack of proper evidence.

In the year 2016, case number 1911/2016 was registered between the State government and Ganesh Joshi in the death of the best horse of the police, Shaktiman, which was going on in the lower court of Dehradun for quite some time.

Meanwhile, Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi expressed happiness by distributing sweets in the office of the Bar Association. He said that the court acquitted him in the five-year-old case. He is very happy after this decision and termed it as 'victory of truth'.

What was the case:

On 14 March 2016, BJP members gheraoed the assembly during the budget session in protest against the alleged failures of the then Congress government. During the protest near the assembly, there was also a clash between policemen and BJP supporters. It was alleged that during this time BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi snatched the sticks of the police and started hitting them. During this melee, the horse landed on its back, breaking its hind leg.

After this painful incident, the horse Shaktimaan's medical treatment continued for several days in Dehradun Police Line. However, to save Shaktimaan's life, the doctors operated and cut his broken leg and replaced it with an artificial leg, but they couldn't save the horse. At the time, BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi was booked under the Animal Cruelty Act for allegedly attacking a trained horse Shaktimaan of Uttarakhand Police and injuring him with a stick.
