Anantnag (Jammu & Kashmir): A major tragedy was averted on Tuesday evening as security forces detected and defused 20 kg of improvised explosive devices (IED) planted by militants near a railway track at Damjan area in Anantnag's Qazigund.
"Bomb disposal squad was called and the traffic movement on the road was stopped. The IED has been successfully defused", police said.

On June 27, the Jammu Police had recovered an IED which was targeted at a crowded area by Lashkar-e-Taiba. On June 7, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces had recovered an IED near the Saimu area of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Two days prior to this, security forces had defused an IED planted in a steel container near the government quarters in Chanpora. A joint team of security forces detected an IED planted near Railway link road at Panzgam under Awantipora police station area on May 31.
