SC expresses concern over increasing COVID-19 cases

Supreme Court has expressed its concern over the rising COVID-19 cases across the nation. Earlier Centre had informed the court that 10 states are contributing to 70% of covid cases.

Delhi: Taking a grim view of the Covid 19 situation in the country, the Supreme Court today once again expressed its concern over things going from bad to worse and no concrete steps being taken by the centre and the states.

The bench comprising of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice MR Shah observed that processions are being taken out and 80% of people are not wearing masks and some of them have it hanging in their jaws.

Justice MR Shah remarked that there are SOPs and guidelines but no will and asked to ensure that all states strictly implement the guidelines.

Centre informed the court that 10 states are contributing to 70% of covid cases including Maharashtra, Kerela, Delhi, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh and said that the case should be heard on 1st December.

In an affidavit, the centre blamed the Delhi government for worsening situation in Delhi and alleged that its failure to contain the virus has led to a surge in infection. It said that no timely measures were taken, no increase in ICU beds or testing capacity, people in home isolation were not properly traced etc.

The court was hearing a matter on the proper treatment of COVID 19 and dignified handling of dead bodies. It will again hear it on 1st December.
