Kolkata: Alleging that the Mamata Banerjee government did not implement central government schemes for its 'narrow political interests', Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday said that the lotus will bloom in West Bengal. Shekhawat said that saying 'Vande Matram' is considered a crime in Bengal and those saying so are beaten up and are put behind the jail.

The BJP leader was addressing 'Griha Sampark Abhiyan' in the city as part of the party's ''Aar Noi Annay'' (No More Injustice) campaign in poll-bound West Bengal.

Taking a jibe at the ruling Trinamool government, Shekhawat said, "No matter how hard the state government tries to suppress the voices of our party, everybody knows 400 BJP party workers have been killed till now. Thousands of workers, including women, were implicated in false criminal cases and were put behind the bars."

He said, "Our party workers will continue to work with more efforts and BJP will form government in West Bengal. People of the state have disowned you. You have done injustice in Bengal and its people and the state has descended into an era of darkness. You have compelled people to live fearful lives."

The Union minister said that the centre allotted over Rs 2,700 crore for Cyclone Amphan relief after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state, but the ruling TMC "misappropriated the funds and those in need did not get the benefits.

"Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has betrayed the soil and people of West Bengal but this time historical change awaits. TMC is putting guns on the shoulders of the farmers but people are not with them," the BJP leader stated.

BJP has launched 'Griha Sampark Abhiyan', a door-to-door campaign as a part of the massive public outreach programme BJP has planned in the run-up to the state Assembly election due in April-May 2021.
