Bengaluru: AIADMK’s former interim general secretary VK Sasikala was admitted to Bowring hospital in Bengaluru after she complained of breathing problems just days before her release. Sasikala complained of fever and breathing difficulties on Wednesday. Earlier she underwent treatment at the jail hospital but later taken to the Bowring Hospital for a second opinion, sources added.
"Shashikala, 63, with comorbidities of hypertension diabetes & hypothyroidism has been admitted with cough & fever. Her condition is stable with supportive measures, antibiotics & oxygen. She will be further evaluated & monitored," said Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital in its press statement.
The expelled AIADMK leader arrived in an ambulance and was taken inside the hospital in a wheelchair, the sources said. It is not confirmed yet whether she is suffering from COVID-19.
She is scheduled to be released from prison on January 27 after serving her four-year sentence in the disproportionate assets case in Parappana Agrahara prison.
Sources said that the former AIADMK general secretary's health deteriorated after she complained of breathing issues and officials shifted her to the hospital immediately. A medical team led by Dr Uma is monitoring her health condition.

Earlier, a jail official told media she was getting treated for fever and breathlessness in the jail hospital.
"Now she will be taken to the Bowring hospital," the official said.
According to the sources, Sasikala is facing a severe breathing problem and maybe shifted to another hospital in the city for higher treatment.
Sasikala's lawyer Raja Senthoor Pandian had said that he received official communication from the Bengaluru prison authorities that she will be released in the "morning hours" of January 27 as she completes her jail term and has paid the required ₹10 crores fine.
