Mumbai: The ill-famed police officer Sachin Waze who masterminded the planting of gelatine explosives in a vehicle and parked near Ambani’s south Mumbai residence 'Antilia’ on February 25 had planned to "extort money" from the Reliance Chairman, says the chargesheet submitted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to a special NIA court in Mumbai. Sachin Waze and Pradeep Sharma and eight others are in the custody of the NIA.

Waze, who was assistant police inspector with the Mumbai crime branch before his arrest, joined hands with others to place the SUV and a threat letter near Ambani’s residence, it said. “The intent was clearly to terrorize wealthy and prosperous people. Also to extort money by putting into (them) fear of dire consequences,” said the chargesheet.

CCTV footage shows that the SUV was parked at 2.10 am on Carmichael Road in South Mumbai outside the Ambani residence on February 25. It shows a person wearing a long kurta, with a face mask, returning to the spot at 4.30 am and peering inside the SUV.

The chargesheet also said that Waze placed an SUV with explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house here to regain his reputation as a “supercop”.

Businessman Mansukh Hiran was subsequently killed as Waze thought him to be the “weak link” in the conspiracy, the NIA said, adding that Pradeep Sharma, a former police officer, was roped in to execute the murder.

The NIA chargesheeted 10 accused people under various sections in the case of recovery of explosives at Carmichael Road, Mumbai. The accused include Sachin Hindurao Waze, Naresh Ramniklal Gor, Vinayak Balasaheb Shinde, Riyazuddin Hisamuddin Kazi, Sunil Dharma Mane, Santosh Atmaram Shelar, Anand Pandurang Jadhav, Satish Tirupati Mothkuri, Manish Vasantbhai Soni and Pradeep Rameshwar Sharma.

During the investigation, incriminating evidence came to the fore against the above mentioned accused who were involved in various stages of conspiracy of placing explosive-laden Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, its theft and murder of Mansukh Hiran.
