Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, will hereby be called the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award "respecting the sentiments of citizens across the country", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.
The Khel Ratna, so far officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in Sports and Games, is the highest sporting honour in the country.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had been getting several requests from citizens to name the Khel Ratna award after the hockey wizard.
