Heavy rains wreak havoc in Maharashtra, 65 killed

Rainstorm, flood, landslide lashes Maharashtra, total 65 people killed. While 38 people were killed in a massive landslide in Raigad, 12 lost their lives in Satara. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased. Similarly, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced help of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those killed in rain-related accidents.

Mumbai / Raigad: In a series of massive disasters, at least 65 people have been killed in Konkan, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara due to heavy rains, floods and landslide in Maharashtra. At least 38 people have been killed in a landslide in Talai village in Raigad district, while 11 people were killed in a landslide in Poladpur. In Satara, 12 people were killed in different accidents related to heavy rain. Four people were killed when a house collapsed in Govandi in Mumbai.

PM announces ex-gratia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of those killed in the landslide in Raigad and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. The President of India has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the floods in the state. Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the tragedy and assured all possible help from the Centre.

Difficulties in rescue operations due to heavy rains - CM

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reviewed the situation in the state and instructed the administration to work round-the-clock. The Chief Minister later told the media that rescue operations were facing difficulties due to heavy rains. The Chief Minister also predicted that the situation of heavy rains would remain the same for another day. He also announced help of 5 lakh each to the families of those killed in rain-related accidents in the state. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar apprised Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the flood situation in the state.

49 killed in Raigad

At least 38 people were killed in a landslide at Talai in Raigad and 11 people in a landslide in Poladpur. The rescue operation is being carried out by NDRF in Raigad.

12 killed in different incidents in Satara

In Satara, 12 people have died in various accidents related to rain, including landslides. In Patan district, four people died and three families went missing. The rescue operation is being carried out by the administration in the district.

4 killed in house collapse in Mumbai

Four people were killed and seven others were injured when a house collapsed at Shivaji Nagar of Govandi in Mumbai. The injured are being treated at the hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

1800 rescued in Ratnagiri

1,800 flood victims have been rescued in Chiplun, Ratnagiri. At Posare-Boudhwadi in Chiplun, 17 people are feared to have been trapped under the mudslide. Apart from this, in Dhamnand in Khed taluka, 17 houses have collapsed and some people have been trapped under the debris.

Thackeray is not serious about flood - Patil

BJP state president Chandrakantdada Patil has said that the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is not serious about the flood situation as he he works from Matoshri instead of war room. Arriving in Ahmednagar on Friday for a party organizational meeting, he targeted Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the current flood situation.
