Punjab cop injured after being run over by car

A Punjab Police cop was injured after he was run over by a car in Patiala's Leela Bhawan Chowk, on Saturday. The cop, Sub Singh, sustained injuries and suffered fractures after which he was admitted to the hospital.

Patiala (Punjab): A Punjab Police official was injured after he was run over by a car in Patiala's Leela Bhawan Chowk, on Saturday. The cop, Sub Singh, sustained injuries and suffered fractures after which he was admitted to the hospital.

The incident took place on Saturday noon when the cop was checking the vehicles ahead of Independence Day on August 15. The driver instead of co-operating hit the cop ran over one of his legs and fled from the spot.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the culprit and a case has been registered against him.

"The car driver dragged the policeman along with the car to evade checking. The car has been traced, further investigation is underway," said Hemant Sharma, DSP City told media.

" A check-post had been set up and checking was going on ahead of the Independence day. There was a vehicle with a black film on the window glass, which was playing the songs on the loudspeaker. On the complaint of some shopkeepers when I tried to enquire, the man instead of co-operating ran over me, Sub Singh said.

He also said that he suffered a fracture in one of his legs.

Earlier also, a traffic policeman trying to stop a car got stuck on its bonnet while the driver kept speeding in the city of Patna in Bihar state. The man at the wheels, Dr Kamlesh Gunjan, working with AIIMS, was driving on the wrong side of the road on a rail over bridge in Rupaspur when the policeman tried to intercept it.

In a similar incident, a Delhi Police constable was injured after he was run over by a car in Sarita Vihar area. The constable, Jitender, had sustained fractures in both his legs.

Similarly, in Haryana, a traffic head constable Sanjeev Kumar was dragged by three men on the bonnet of their car for about 500 metres. Sanjeev said that he was on duty at BR International Chowk in the evening and was checking the vehicles when the incident happened.

In another incident, a man dragged a constable for 2 km on his car bonnet to allegedly escape from paper checking by the traffic police in Nangloi area of Delhi.
