Karnal (Haryana): Farmers who were trying to protest against Haryana Chief Minister M Manohar Lal Khattar demanding the repeal of the three contentious farm laws were lathi-charged in Karnal by police forces. A heightened tension prevailed in the area following the incident. Several farmers on Saturday had threatened to disrupt the meeting called by BJP leaders in Haryana demanding the repeal of the farm laws.
Several farmers protested by showing black flags to BJP state president O P Dhankhar at Karnal toll plaza and they also vandalised the latter's vehicle using sticks. The BJP had called for a high profile meeting of its leaders from 11 am to 3 pm today. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, state president OP Dhankar, and several other BJP leaders are taking part in the meeting.

Earlier, District Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar had assured that efforts would be made to convince farmer leaders. "If anyone violates law and order, strict action will be taken against him," Kumar added.
